Friends of the Library Quarterly Meeting
October 1, 2008
The big evening is approaching! On Thursday evening, October 16, 2008, we will be privileged to hear Richard Lederer speak in Beaumont’s Civic Center. There is no admission charge, folks!
There will be a public reception for Mr. Lederer (with free goodies and punch for all) beginning at 5:30 P.M.
The main event will begin at 7 P.M. when he will speak on the timely (and non-partisan) topic “Presidential Trivia”. He has written a book, which I have, on this subject, and I can assure you that you will also find his performance to be fascinating. I say “performance”, because Mr. Lederer is famous for both his knowledge and hilarious analysis, of what we all must admit, is our often goofy English language. Human nature is also on his dartboard. He is funny to listen to and funny to read. So come one, come all, to the Civic Center Thursday. A variety of his books will be for sale and he will be happy to sign them for you.
The new bookcases for the new/refurbished Book Sale room are almost finished. Hang in there ---- the Book Sale shall rise again!
No doubt most of you are familiar with our Library’s “Honor Wall” where we mount the names of people who have contributed significantly in time or money to the Library. We are pleased to announce that this year’s well-deserved award has gone to Francia Soderberg, a longtime Member of the Friends’ Board. Francia is retiring from the Board this fall and will be sorely missed by us all. She has been there helping out at Library events, including the yearly Plant Sale, and helped to arrange having our Book Sale moved temporarily to D.D.’s Chic and Shabby antique store when the Sale needed a home. She also worked tirelessly re-vamping and up-dating the Friends’ Bylaws. Each Quarter, the Minutes were much improved under her keen eye. Thank you, Francia!

Book Sale
The Book Sale room is now reopen! Saturday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. stop by and check out
our wide selection of gently used books and media. The Book Sale room is located on the East side of the library
building with the parking lot. Now accepting donations.
Donations & Endowments
Donations: The Friends of the Library encourage gifts of books for the Book Sale, monetary donations, endowments, and bequests, and recognize donors after a certain level with significant volunteer time in support of the organization through placement of their names on the Donor Honor Wall.
Endowment Fund: In July 2000 the Friends of the Library set aside $5000 to start an endowment fund for the Beaumont Library District.
The endowment fund is a fund kept permanently and invested to create income for the Friends to benefit Beaumont Library District.
Please remember the Friends of the Library when you wish to honor, gift, or memorialize a friend or loved one.
